World Youth Day
2008 in Sydney, Australia
WYD brings together thousands of Catholic young adults from countries all over the world to learn about their faith and to celebrate it with Pope John Paul II. At WYD 2005, participants learned how German Catholics live their faith. The world-wide sharing of faith and culture makes WYD a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Participants will meet other Catholic young adults during a week-long program beginning with a welcome Mass and ending with a Mass celebrated with the Holy Father. Other activities include faith sessions to learn more about our Catholic beliefs as well as participation in the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation. There will be opportunities for prayer, social service activities, and entertainment that includes concerts, plays, dance, and faith sharing. An important part of WYD is the chance for young adults from around the world to meet, make friends, and to learn from each other.
+ Experience "pilgrimage," a journey with unexpected outcomes and unanticipated challenges, made for the purpose of strengthening one?s faith.
+ Experience spiritual growth while participating in lively and meaningful faith-sharing groups and liturgies.
+ Experience the hospitality of people and cultures from distant lands who all share our Catholic faith.
