Employee Job Descriptions
Sample templates of parish employee job descriptions are available
for most positions. These can be revised according to the needs
at individual sites. This format is recommended for all written
descriptions. If you would like a copy of a template please contact sduffy@dow.org or pjthompson@dow.org
Evaluation Forms
A variety of evaluation forms can be obtained from our office for
use in parishes and/or schools. We suggest these materials be used
with personnel to provide consistent feedback and opportunities
for goal setting.
Hiring Practices
A variety of resources are available to aid parish pastors and administrators
with hiring. Information and forms are accessible on-line
for your convenience. Our office provides parishes and institutions
with specific information for the Recruitment
of New Employees. We also provide information regarding
the Application Process
and what might be included in an Application
Package for individuals seeking employment. Once an applicant
is selected for an interview, a variety of steps should be considered
as General Interview Procedures.
A team model is suggested and there are some valuable Interview
Do's and Don'ts followed in this process. Our office offers
samples of candidate rating sheets and interview questions upon
request.
The State of Minnesota also requires a Criminal Background Check
for individuals hired to work with children or in a position which
interfaces with children on a regular basis. * Resources for Criminal Background Checks - Diocesan Consent Form and Catholic Mutual User Guide.
On-site training is also offered for Search and Interview committees
at the local level. If you have a need for this service, contact
the Office of Human Resources or e-mail the Director.
Contract Issues
Guidelines and legal requirements for employee contracts are available
through our office. These include, but are not limited to, grievance
procedures, harassment policies, termination processes, and file
requirements.
Exempt/Nonexempt Status
The Fair Labor Standards Act of Minnesota defines the status of
employees in businesses, both public and private. Contact our office
for clarification on positions and wage laws.
