Overview and Requirements
All parishes in the Diocese of Winona are required to file an Annual Financial Report to the Diocese of Winona Pastoral Center by August 31 of each year. The reporting period is from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. The pastor, lay trustees and preparer are expected to sign the Annual Financial Report.
All funds held in bank accounts, at the Diocese of Winona Deposit and Loan Fund and in other investment vehicles, such as stocks and bonds, must be disclosed on the Annual Financial Report. Annual activity in each fund or account must be included in the revenue and expense activity disclosed on the report.
The financial information contained in the Annual Report should be communicated to the Parish Finance Council on an annual basis. A summary version of the report may be provided to parishioners.
The Diocese of Winona uses the Annual Financial Report as a tool for financial accountability, internal financial analysis and historical record. In addition, the Annual Financial Report is used to determine the diocesan assessment, pension plan for priests assessment and annual diocesan appeal target. It is important to receive accurate and timely financial information so that these objectives can be obtained.
2008 Instructions for Logos Users
Once you have closed the fiscal year, the Logos Accounting Software will complete your diocesan annual financial reporting requirement for you. In addition to Logos generated reports, please download and complete the following documents:
1. Statement of Parish Inventory & Historical Data (Excel 97 or newer)
2. Internal Control Questionnaire (pdf)
When the reporting process is complete, the following items must be submitted to the Diocese of Winona Pastoral Center by August 31, 2008:
Paper – (Signed and Dated)
• Statement of Revenue over Expense
• Balance Sheet
• Statement of Parish Property & Historical Data
• Internal Control Questionnaire
Electronic – (Via Logos, e-mail or CD)
• Backup of Parish Data
If you have completed the annual financial report via Logos in prior fiscal years, no changes are required for your software. If this is your first year completing the report via Logos, you will need to download a custom report module. The module is available for download by clicking the link below:
Custom Reports for Logos Management Software users (exe file, Select ‘Run’ if prompted)
Tech Note: If the custom report module is downloaded and installed more than once, you may receive an error when opening Logos. Please contact the Diocese of Winona Parish Financial Services for direction on how to resolve the issue.

2008 Instructions for Non-Logos Users
The format has been updated for fiscal year ending 2008. The updated version is available by clicking on the following link below:
1. 2008 Annual Financial Report for Non-Logos Parish (Excel 97 or newer)
2. Internal Control Questionnaire (pdf)
When completing the report, please be aware there are four separate tabs to complete in the report:
1. Statement of Revenue & Expense
2. Balance Sheet
3. Statement of Parish Inventory and Historical Data
4. Trial Balance
For your reference, a sample report in the new format is attached below. (As a comparison, the same information has been entered in the “original” format).
