Catholic Charities Provides Financial Help to Flood Victims

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Winona is providing recovery aid to families and individuals who suffered losses in the floods of last September. The application form can be downloaded from Catholic Charities’ website www.ccwinona.org or can be obtained by calling Catholic Charities at 507-454-2270.

To make the best use of these resources, Catholic Charities is partnering with the local agencies that are providing flood recovery case management. To be eligible for assistance, applicants must be working with the local agency that is managing long-term flood recovery. The agency case managers will review applications for assistance and make recommendations to Catholic Charities. All persons living in the 18 counties that are part of the Diocese of Winona and which the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared to be federal disaster areas are eligible for assistance.

The initial pool of flood recovery funds, approximately $22,000, was provided by Catholic Charities USA, the Diocese of Winona, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Recognizing that many families have not yet been able to recover from the flood, Bishop John M. Quinn of the Diocese of Winona encourages all Catholics in the diocese to support recovery efforts by making a gift to the Flood Recovery Fund. Donations, designated for the Flood Recovery Fund, can be made on-line at www.ccwinona.org or mailed to Catholic Charities – Flood Recovery Fund, P.O. Box 379, Winona, MN 55987. Every dollar raised will be used to provide flood recovery assistance.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Winona serves the twenty southernmost counties of Minnesota spanning the territory from the Mississippi River to the South Dakota border. With a mission to serve the poor and vulnerable, the marginalized, the alienated, and the stranger, Catholic Charities’ staff and volunteers serve over 4,500 people a year without regard to religion, race, or gender. Offices within the Diocese of Winona are located in Winona, Rochester, Mankato, Worthington, Albert Lea, Austin and Owatonna. For more information, visit its website - www.ccwinona.org.
